I live on a tidal creek and use to catch all kinds of minnows over night ,but now when i leave my minnow trap out over night when i pullit in all the minnows belly have been ate out? Is this from fiddler crabs?
Fiddlers aren’t really predators, so it’s highly doubtful. I’m not exactly sure what would do this, I can’t see a blue crab being able to catch the minnows from outside the trap. Perhaps a mantis shrimp? They are quite intelligent and could probably figure out how to escape.

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>Use to leave a minnow trap in the water “overnight” or even a day or two. Not necessary. If it is a productive minnow spot, 30 minutes will produce all the minnows you should need for a days fishing. What is eating your minnows… everything?!!! Minnows are born to me eaten. That’s why they are such good bait. Tidal creeks change EVERY year. Good one year. Bad, next year.
I have been catching nothing but fiddlers in my trap.
I was using old expired Vienna sausages, but I switched to Cheetos the last time I baited the trap. I noticed that when my son tossed a Cheeto in the water it attracted a pretty big crowd of minnows. Hopefully I will have some free bait next time out.

When using fiddler crabs for bait is that for sheep head or reds like that too?
That is from the minnows themselves cannibalizing. We saw it all the time in the bait tanks at the shop.

Ever need to dispose of a body, toss it into a mud minnow tank.

I haven’t had that problem in the trap, but i have while fishing. I will feel a few light tugs on the line, reel in and my mud minnow has no belly. Looks like its been filleted. Always figured it was some kind of trash fish.
All fishermen are liers except me and you and I’m not sure about you.
