Minnow trap

Went to take a 13 year old kid out fishing for the first time. Got to the spot where I set my minnow trap last night and its gone. Stolen. ended up catching some other bait and catching a few reds and trout but the point is some people are sorry enough to do crap like that.

That is low. One thing to “barrow” some bait from a trap, (that should get you a good knock in the snoz), but don’t take the man’s trap.

Man that is ridiculous. Some people just don’t give a !@$# about anything but themselves. You sure it didn’t roll down the creek with the tide? I quickly learned to tie mine up after that happened to me.

All fishermen are liers except me and you and I’m not sure about you.

I don’t leave mine overnight for this reason. You should be able to get all you need in 30 minutes when the trap is put in the right location.

I usually do but it was high tide and I’ve never had any problems when I do leave it overnight. The creek is so small I can barley drive my jonboat in and back it out. It almost dries up at low tide so I walked the whole creek bottom looking for it because it has happened before.

I’ve had that happen before too. Pretty sorry that someone would do that.
Daddy is doing well at his minnowing. Says he is going to buy some more traps even…I’m happy that he is in the creek that he loves so much.

I think it’s even more amazing when I pulled up on someone emptying my one crab pot into his boat (full of crabs). As I got closer he took off. Now, if it were someone from shore and they didn’t have much to go on, then I’d just shrug; but if you own a freak’n boat (especially a nice one like he had) and do that stuff then that’s just all out B.S…

As for your minnow trap, I know your pain. I’ve always tried camouflaging my the best I could and fortunately no one ever got to it (unlike my crab pot which was eventually stolen when used by my neighbor from shore… I knew the risk… but it still sucks!!!). On the flip side, I’m still amazed how many great folks there are out there on the water. There really are a lot more good folks than terds from what I’ve encountered here as opposed to other places I’ve lived. If I see you out interceptor then I’ll toss you some bait any time, boss (I’m in a 17.5’ Scout; 100 hp yami; fish primarily Limehouse, Stono Inlet, Folly, Kiawah areas).

Ok, so maybe just for fun I’m going to start setting minnow and crab traps with a roll of realistic looking faux dynamite in it, and just sit back and watch.

There should be some serious, serious danger in swiping someone’s crab pots.

I had one stolen last year. Now I bring my gaff when I set my trap and don’t tie it up to anything. If someone wants my trap now they are either going to have to find a tree limb or something to pull it out or get really wet and muddy. It’s worked so far

daddy lost about 20 brand new crab pots beginning of season…at 50.00 a pot…that hurts big time.

Ive had 4-5 minnow traps stolen over the years…some people just dont care. I try to hid the line if im leaving it over night.

I’ve heard of some folks embedding fish hooks in the line for this very reason. Of course, some lawyer out there would probably sue when someone gets stuck - like the burglar who breaks their arm breaking into a house and then sues the homeowner.

You have to be lower than a snakes belly to steal a minnow trap(or anything for that matter). Someone snatched one of mine a few weeks back. I couldn’t believe it, it was rusty and on it’s last leg. I thought maybe the current took it…but no. I proceeded to go to my regular fishing spot about 1/4 of a mile away, and there it was RE-SET! I was blown away. It had to be kids or tourists. It was set with hot dogs and two monster shrimp…obviously grabbed out of mommy’s fridge. In the old days I would have camped out and waited em…

I gotta tell my story. One of my sons’ put his minnow trap out in midday and came back 2 hrs. later. GONE!

I talked to a guy the next day at the same place, he had his truck and boat in tow, blocking most of the road, and waiting for his minnow trap to fill. I stopped and told him about the suspect theft. He said “happens all the time” and he just baits with dry dog food and waits 20 minutes and collects all mud minnows he needs.

One month later we are up there with the new trap and what should appear…old trap. A casting rod and a treble hook and bingo! it was his “stolen trap”

It made me feel better about honest men until my dog’s life jacket blew out of the boat and onto the road. The public ramp is a 90 yd ride from my home. In less than 5 minutes someone got the life jacket, gone. All they had to do is ride by the ramp and see us and the small dog without jacket and ask.

Buy the camo cord from wallyworld. When I set mine, you have got to know where its at to see it!

That’s a good idea. I use decoy line and a plastic Gatorade bottle and try to keep the bottle in the grass.

The one that just disappeared actually had a vitamin water bottle attached to it. Just incase the culprit is on here lol

My Momma would say lower than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut.
