Minnow traps

What is a good, cheap minnow trap that will last in salt water? I know there was a topic on this once and one of you guys posted a link to the hull truth on how to make one, I would appreciate it if whoever did that post it again if you still have it. All help will be appreciated, thank’s in advance!!!

Light travel’s faster than sound. This is why some people appear smart until you hear them speak.

Just get the Gee’s Minnow Trap, I have had more luck with it, that’s the metallic in color one I think it’s Stainless, I have had better luck with it than I have had with the Plastic Coated Steel one

Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

Alot depends where you are going to use it! I have had many disapear. I cant beleve some one would take a mans minners ! I have learned to use the Walmart plastic coated type for about 7-8$ and will last 3 yrs if washed after use in fresh water. I buy 2 at a time when I find them on sale. all ways use a rope twice as long as you think you need!

we got this pinfish trap at Cudjo Key this spring. Place called Cudjo Supply. we keep it baited with the carcases from our trips and now help other crews with live bait! we went through 5doz pinfish last sat on ars and bsb’s. hardy and grouper candy! 90 dollars but well worth it.

If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.

Bug Catcher, lets see a pic

Been wanting to do this, but those traps look so small. What size is you trap and where do you normally put it? (i.e. in a creek, in the harbor, under dock, etc?)

I believe pinfish traps are illegal in SC!

Where did you find this info?

I’ve always understood pinfish traps to be illegal as well but I cannot find info on this. Not that I consider it a good law, I think EVERY fisherman should be required to kill at least a dozen pinfish on every trip.

I was at Bass Pro today. They have a pretty cool looking collapsible trap for 8.99. I may try it out since it is so portable.

ment to put the pic up the other night!

its about 3X3ft.

I have two traps.Work great.

Stonoman

Been using pin fish tra[p in S.C. for years, Hope there not ilegal shore work well and great off shore bait! Hardy little bastards!

Pin fish are good shark bait

DO NOT GET CAUGHT WITH A PINFISH TRAP WITH FISH IN IT!!! 100% against the law (stupid law) fish traps were outlawed with the exception of minnow traps. Funny thing is you can have a pinfish trap in your boat, but don’t get caught with fish in the trap. I hide mine very well…and look around before you pull it!

Link? I cannot seem to find anything on DNR’s website outlawing fish traps anymore. The only thing I see is you are not allowed fish traps on the artificial reefs.

call DNR law enforcement and ask for Angus Mcbride. The website is lacking lots of the laws. You can’t find most of the commercial laws on the website.

Here it is from DNR

Now how about a couple of you that are attorneys write up a petition that can be left at tackle shops, marinas and sporting good stores and after we get a few thousand signatures, we can get a bill to the state house to pass the legalization of pinfish traps in STATE waters. I know most of the game wardens have no problems with pinfish traps, they just have to enforce the law. I will be happy to put a petition in my store.
