Great post Penny
Penny, I love your posts, keep them coming…
Wish’n I was FISH’N, but have to be at work…
Awesome post’s Penny, and great pic’s. I have a fairly old skiff I purchased new in Georgetown in 1985 called a waterbug. It has seen it’s share of seafood and bait catching. Furthermore, it taught five of my Grandsons how to fish and catch bait.
Ice seen those boats before:). We had a old v bottom aluminum boat growing up… When we weren’t paddling around in it we would flip it upside down and then get under it and talk and hang out…like a secret spot…didnt take much to entertain us back then. When we got one with a motor…woooweeee…we were really rock in’ then. . Worse thing they ever did was invite those gaming machines and such . Kids nowadays don’t know what it’s like to be forced “IN” for. The yard…now it’s hard to get them to go out most times :). Our yard was always full of bikes.

Penny, if you happen to find one in the Columbia area, let me know. I am working there from Monday morning till Thur evenings. I would be happy to bring it to at least as far as goose creek. Or if I can help someone else, the offer applies. Can’t hurt for some good karma, and someday I may need some help from someone. As a vet, thanks for everything you do.

Charleston Marine quit selling bait. I believe their tanks are for sale. Might want to talk to chrisv.
I read your stories all the time and I enjoyed everyone. I wish I had a dad like yours. You guess are extremely blessed.

hey Penny,
great stories. have a suggestion (yall probably already thought of this) when i catch mm next to oysters, i just use a hammer to crack a few oysters. gently cracked, the oyster lets out that delicious flavor but is hard for mm to eat quickly. a couple fills the bucket. then you can take a few more oysters with you and use the trap as chum bucket for enhancing your testing. I never have to take bait for trap with me. good luck with new adventure.

Penny, once again a great story and pics. As someone has already mentioned, you and your Dad’s stories mean a lot to everyone but they hold a greater meaning to those of us that can’t get out due to physical/medical problems. Please keep them coming. As a youngster growing up in the West Ashley area, the neighborhood boys would mud minnow ‘fish’ on the culvert that ran under the old Seaboard Coastline rail bed. We used periwinkles for bait. We would crack them a little, tie them on a piece of string and when the MM’s bit we would jerk them up and catch them in our ball cap. We practiced catch and release before it was ever heard of. I would think cracked periwinkles would work in a minnow trap. That is, if the powers that be haven’t declared them protected.
Best post I’ve read. Thank you.
