Minnowing with my daddy...

. Really

Dreally

Daddy has decided to try his luck at minnow ing as someone asked him if he could catch bait for them…minnow traps are a lot easier to pull than crab pots…and with crabbing being so slow right now…he decided to give it a try…and seems really excited about it. Might be a good and better move for him as crabbing has been not to profitable with the slow catch and thieves…plus the wear and tear on daddy. Don’t get me wrong…I can’t imaging not running pots with him…but I don’t want him to hurt either. He Has 12 traps (cant believe they are 17.00 each now…and plans to build some himself as soon as he decides what type to make.
Wed. We decided to use a "scouting " trip for minnow holes as a way to go fishing…don’t think it fooled momma and Donnie …but regardless…it got us a extra day on the water! Left the ramp at six…no sign of my dolphin friend…daddy said it was because we were late

Here’s a trap someone else made

Ride out was nice…

Another super low tide

Too bad we can’t find a use for periwinkles!

Stopped to throw the cast net for some bait and immediately saw something I didn’t want to see off the bow! I tell daddy to look…it’s a alligator…throw the net on him he tells me…!! Yeah right!
He said there was one hanging at the ramp this past week too. Tis one wasn

Oh yeah…if anyone has any type large live well or bait tank /pump they want to sell let me know. He is still experimenting with this but trying to get it set up.

Dang Penny I’m seeing a TV show. Crabbing with Daddy, Oystering with Daddy, now Minnowing with Daddy.

“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”.

Fabulous narrative and pics as usual, Penny. I’m tellin’ you, you’re gonna kick yourself in a few years for not having cashed in on your book deal…

Now you are talking…a reality TV show. Instead of Duck Dynasty, Krab Kingdom or Minnow Monarchs.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

Don’t forget Oyster Barons.

I’d watch it every show.

Hey Penny YEAH you got to do some doing with your Dad,any excuse is a good excuse to be with your family. There used to be a guy on Pawleys that sold Mud minnows he had a old bath tub sunk down in the ground and filters easy to drain and clean out and seemed to work great.

Here is a bait tank on craigslist

Thank you Penny for the stories you write . I don’t get down there much but when I do I like doing the things in your stories as well. It let’s me live down there thru your eyes for moments in time .

If I had a pick of anybody to fish or hand out with while down there it would surely be you and your dad .

You probably don’t realize it but there could be hundreds of people who can’t get around but they also get to live the salt life from your posts . I hope the minnow project works out !
Thank you Sid

Fishingpox…Thanks to all of you and to Andy for letting me ramble on about my days with daddy. I know some may get tired of them probably…but not once has anyone said so…told me I was in the wrong forum…or were sarcastic about my posts. I wish everyone could spend a day with daddy…he is a old salt for sure…and a lot of fun for sure.
Titan… I will tell daddy about the tank but don’t know that he would be able to go to Columbia…he isn’t much of a traveler… Lol… Gtown or mt pleasant are “traveling to him”.

No one is tired of your rambling, if there is someone, that’s their problem. You inspire us all.

If your father works out a deal with the seller, I’d be happy to pay for it on the front end it and bring it down to him. Just let me know.

Penny, I am in Columbia if I can help in any way.

And you do not ramble.

Thanks again, Penny, for sharing your dad! Your pictures, words, and emotions are salt covered poetry! For those of us who live inland in a place like Irmo, your descriptions of your beloved creeks add a couple degrees of sanity to our lives. I will one day retire to Edisto but until then, I depend on you!

For sure. No doubt. You don’t get arms like that from working at a desk and fishing on weekends.

Larry…you should have seen his arms…“back in the day”. A guy once told daddy that the scariest he had ever been was when he looked up from the ice hold of a shrimp boat where he was shoveling ice and saw daddy and his gorilla arms crawling down the ladder to where he was. The guy had been talking to me and was afraid “mr bubby” was coming to lay down the law :). Said he "feared for his life " Too funny!
The boys in the village respected daddy that’s for sure ;)… And still do…and not just for his arms

Penny

You really need to consider turning your stories into children’s books of some kind. The short stories would be a great way to teach kids how to read and keep them interested.

Great work!

Awesome as always. I agree about the people with nice boats looking down on a dirty skiff. Some of the best times I’ve had fishing were on a “worn in” boat.I just picked up an old skiff myself without spending a dime and its already provided me with memories that I will never forget.
