Minor hull chips repair question

I found a few small chips in the bottom of the hull. Is this something I can fix with a gel coat repair kit or am I going to have to do more?

Thanks for any help!

I’d use epoxy resin to repair those chips instead of polyester resin, but I’m no expert. I’d also clean those dings up a bit before proceeding with the repair. Cracker Larry is probably the in house expert on issues like this.

You can’t gelcoat over epoxy…something to think about.

JB Weld job??? …and not a good one.

It’s on the bottom of my hull so I am not too concerned with it looking good. I do want to make sure I do a good repair job, what would be the best way to clean them up? Should I sand it down and then find a repair kit? Also I am fairly new to boat ownership, will it do damage to the boat if I run it until I figure out the best way to fix it? Thanks!

That’s what it looks like.
Your damage is into the glass. You really need to get all that cleaned out. I would fix it before I used the boat, it’s only gonna get worse. Match the material for the repair with the original material. Most likely polyester.
If you’re handy with fiberglass it should be a project you can do yourself, otherwise maybe you should seek some help. Those dings could become something more serious if not done properly.

First off, that is more damage than gel coat can repair. It needs a structural epoxy filler and I’d probably but a couple layers of glass over it too.

You will need to grind out the holes to remove all the shattered glass, the damage probably extends further than you can see under the paint. Then grind all around them about 6". Fill with thickened epoxy and glass over. Then paint.

Yes, your hull core is compromised and water will get in and saturate the core. Fix it before you use it.

Cracker Larry I have never tried anything like this but am open to trying to fit it my self. What would be the steps to follow to do this repair, or should I try and find someone with a little experience to help?

Sounds like you need some help. See Loopervert’s post in your other thread. I would do it for you but I’m 100 miles away.

Thanks, I think I am going to look for some one that has more experience than me to fix it. If yall know anyone in the Beaufort/Bluffton area let me know. Thanks again!
