We have planned all year to fish this tournament for the first time this year. We have a boat capable of fishing in this weather but who wants to get beat up two days in a row with 3-5’ seas at close intervals? Anyone else planning on giving it a shot? We are rather new to King fishing and I would think slow trolling live menhaden in that kind of wind and seas would be a *****. Your thoughts?
Always a good video to watch regarding King Fishing
After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.
Hahaha thanks for that Capt.
We have been looking forward to it as well, and hate having to think about not fishing…but we’re probably not going to. It’s just not worth gambling that money on the fish AND the weather.

Forecast for Friday has improved substantially. 2.5/8. Saturday still needs to improve for it not to be a 1 day tourney.

They will not cancel the tourney unless small craft advisory. Some small boats likely wont fish but the forecast is completely fishalbe for the bigger CC’s that make up the numbers of this tournament. The forecast only changes the odds but tourney is too big and committed to cancel unless really bad forecast
Friday is looking much better

We backed out. That 2.1’ wind shop on top of that stuff today is no good. It’s getting worse out there by the hour it seems. Getting beat up today to maybe or maybe not be able to fish tomorrow was just not worth the $ gamble.
Best of luck to everyone out there today, tight lines.

We gutted it out Thurs, Fri and Sat. Within the first hour Thursday caught a 40+ smoker, released him and left the area. Fri. produced twin 18#ers and Sat. one HUGE baracuda. On the good side . . . . . I know where all of the holes are located in my curtains and that the high water alarm is functioning as designed.
I rarely fish out of the Charleston Jettys. Those rocks really work. That turn to the south at the end of the jettys was an eye opener each morning. Proud to say the “new to me” Albemarle 24 got us home safely with cocktails in route each afternoon.
Our largest king on Fri was 24+ and caught 3-4 other smaller ones. Went back to the same area on Saturday and it was deserted. Broke off a couple cudas but couldn’t find the kings.
