We had a great day on the “Miss Amanda” with Lynn and David. We left Lynn’s house at 5:00 AM , launched at Shem Creek and headed for the buoy to catch some bait. Rode out on a beautiful flat ocean at 38 mph. At the buoy we picked at the baitfish and finally managed a couple of dozen hard tails and cigar minnows. Also met the good folks on the “Charger” while we were there. With the ocean still perfect, we left for the hunting grounds and found our “Charger” comrades already there , anchored up, and working on the triggers. Not wanting to crowd them, we drifted a line using squid and butterfly jigs until we could locate some decent fish. Drifting was a good choice and we spent most of the day using that approach.
Large triggers were everywhere, we ended with 45. Topped off the group limit with jolthead porgies and white grunts. Now time to drop the hook in the same general area and try to pick up some scamps. With live bait rigs out, we managed 2 nice scamps, a yellow tail, a beautiful queen trigger, and some others we didn’t really want: lionfish, moray eel, sharks etc. Called it a day at 5:30 PM and rode in all the way at 39 MPH. Now off to clean fish and the boat! Will post some pics later.
Yes Sir,
Lots of Triggerfish there. We did notice you were riding a little lower in the water by late afternoon!
Seems like the more lines on the bottom the better the bite was.
I think we got more exercise than those guys trolling around us.
go ahead on the triggers!! We could not find them on Saturday. We caught some real nice gags and plenty of endangered stud red snaps but could not find the trigs to save my life. I fished several spots that are pretty much a given for triggers but no takers. Nice work!
Hey lynn nice catch good talking to ya out there on SAT we were close but never did put eyes on ya. We did pretty well considering we trolled the whole morning away out around the hole for two bonita. We spent the afternoon drifting some good bottom and pulled 25 triggers, limit of nice porgies and some of the biggest vermilion snapper i had ever seen which had to be returned due too closure. I’m talking 26-29inch beauties. I don’t know how you clean all thse triggers they flat wore my knife out.
Again great haul and good to see ya out on the big blue, catch ya back on the lake soon

It was an awesome day for the little Miss Amanda thanks to Bill and first timer David!! You can get spoiled on days like that!
The Good Lord blessed us the whole time with fish and calm seas!!
We probably could have more grouper if we were not so content with catching the best tablefare (IMO) out there while drifting. I was working the jig here and there in search of a brown fish, but I kept catching triggers on the jig. We really didn’t work the live bait long, so I feel we did ok. I’d rather have the kevlar skinned fishies anyway! I can’t wait to get back out there to see if the crew of the tiny Miss Amanda can do a little better!!
I just hope that I can get another 2200 problem free hours out of the Yammy!!
The only thing that would have made it better would have been for Jazzed to have been with us! Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers because while we were out there enjoying ourselves, he lost his mother (~10:20 am). I had the honor of being around her a few times, and she was a truly genuine lady! You had no choice but to be in a great mood when around her! She will be missed by any and all that knew her! She is no longer suffering, and has made it to the goal, Heaven!!

Ha, even on a slick day, it is hard to see the Miss Amanda!
I cleaned around 35 of the triggers and the knife never slowed. Can’t beat a Dexter Russel 6" boning knife, as far as the cost goes anyway, for cleaning triggas! Of course, that is just my opinion. I hope there are a few more days like that before the end of the year!!
I’m glad y’all had a good day as well! If the wx doesn’t allow for an offshore trip, I will surely be back up at the lake chasing those linesiders some more!! Take care!

Excellent haul there fella’s. The Miss Amanda does not disappoint. Looking forward to seeing ya again Bill and Lynn. I need to get after some of those Stripers.
Nice work, but I think that Hapag-Lloyd boat is trying to cornhole your numbers!!!
Thanks, it was fun!!
Yep, they will probably hit that spot on their return trip. Darn cornholers!!

Those Dexters are that good?? Thats some tough skin. Almost bought one awhile back but wanted to make sure.
NN, I think so. I also have 2 of the 8" sani safe DR’s that I use on just about everything else. I have had these for years, and they will hold an edge pretty good. They were only about $15 a piece when I bought them, so that is why I think they are great for the $$. I am getting ready to buy a few more so I can have enough knives to go around if someone forgets theirs:wink:…
Also, I think the angle in which one holds and works their knife makes a big difference in how easy a fish can be cleand(IMO)…

Thanks for the reply Lynnmcd…will check around for best price & get one of those Dexters.
Some blades sharpen up easy to a deadly edge but does not last. I used to use a Lansky to sharpen. Nice with the different angles built in on holder but time consuming.
Got an electric Chefs Choice Edge Select for Christmas from Bass Pro last year & works great so far. Quick too.
Cant wait to fish with yall again…missn fishin with my buddies. Glad yall had a safe trip AND THANKS FOR THE FRESH FRIED STILL HOT TRIGGER it was delicious. Lynn you are the man thanks for everything.

It won’t be long, my friend, before we get ya out there again!!
I knew that a lot of nice people had already brought you and the family a bunch of good food, but not trigger! I just had to hook a brother up, ya know…
We’ll see y’all this evening…

Wish we could have found some triggers Saturday. They were the elusive fish for us that day…and seemed to be the only one. Great haul!!! Makes me hungry looking at them.
