TAKE A KID SPADE FISHING!
Lynn and me took the neighbors kid Monday and caught about 50 spades once we got on them. Cut shrimp with some chum. Kid had to take a break after first two spades ; ) The last three trips have been awesome. Last Monday 28# cobia, Last Thursday many Spades, and yesterday we caught about 50. Kept 10 and released the rest. Did see about a 12 ft shark crashing spanish that another boat identified as a Tiger. Had a boat pull up to us as they were slowing and we had all we wanted. They asked if we minded if they got in on the action and we said sure go ahead. I asked what they had for bait and they replied Steel. We had never seen spear fisherman but it was neat to see them in action. Once they saw and identified the tiger they got out of the water ; ) Heres an EF style shot and a table shot. Take a kid spade fishing : ) Thanks Lynn.

Yall eat those? What do they taste like?

They are good for dog food. My dog eats em all the time.
Hey Jazzed did you some pictures of the tiger? the last one I saw close and personal was in 90’ bottom fishing. My buddie reeled him up after a half hour fight and it stuck its head out of the water and rolled it’s rows of teeth. Very spooky sight!

If your not fishin your not livin!

are you serious? dog food? just curious because they look really good, lot’s of meat in em.

Not as good as Blackfish or Flounder and a pain to clean, but certainly fun to catch.

John

you have got to be kidding. spadefish is awesome to eat. some really good food right there. I bet your dog thinks your an idiot for giving him that good food.

Nice pics, by the way I have never cleaned a spade. They look similar to cleaning a trigger fish. How is the best way and how to cook them.

Never have given them a try but may have to give it a whirl

You are welcome Jazzed, as always! I just finished eating some of those nasty spades:wink:, and they were great! I also think they are fairly easy to clean. You just do not get as much meat as it looks like you would. Can’t wait to go again!!

I really enjoyed seeing the smile on that young boy’s face! That was just great! :slightly_smiling_face:

I wish that I would have taken those guys offer to let me spear a couple…

I am definately no pro on the spades (caught my first last week), or any fish for that matter, but you’re welcome to go anytime…

They are a blast to catch! They are, for the most part, just like any other fish with similar structure, and are pretty easy to clean once you get in there and learn the line. As tall as the spades are, you would think you would get more meat though.
