"Miss Amanda" 8/17/09

A buddy and I worked the ledge in roughly 180’ - 200’. We found a 2° rip with weed that we worked for a while. We released a slinger bull(my error). We were not getting any other action so we worked a little further North. It was not long before we had a double on. Only one fish showed itself. It was a sail. Well, I was not worried about that fish, so I just left the rod in the holder and concentrated on the other fish which was fighting pretty decent. I was clearing lines, driving the boat and enjoying the show the sail was putting on way back. The sail finally let go and the other fish showed its stripes. We got the wahoo in the box and got the spread back out. It was only a few minutes later that I hooked up on another wahoo. It made it to the box also. The sail hit a cheap bubbler on the way back and the hoos hit a red/white and a blue/white islander black hole. I have yet to catch a wahoo below the surface. We also gaffed and released > 20 cudas. The cudas worked our butts off. This was the second trip in two weeks that my boat had a sail/wahoo double. It sure makes it exciting fishing a small boat with only two on board.

A couple of pics:

Not the biggest hoos, but good eats for sure…

EDIT: Going tomorrow if the weather holds. I could use one more if anyone is interested…

I wasn’t too worried about the stickfish, I wanted the meat fish. Both of us have landed sails before, and they are fun if they are the only thing going on, but other than that, I’ll take the meat.

We’re heading out there again tomorrow to see if we can get lucky with a couple more hoos…

I have heard that sails are pretty good, but I don’t really don’t care about taking them. If I get a legal one to the boat that doesn’t look like he will make it, you can bet I’ll bend it the best I can to get it in the box…

This week is a bust because of flying I’ve gotta do. However, I’ve got a few days next week open. PM me if you think you’ll be going out next week anytime.

Great report! Gotta love the Hoo meat!:sunglasses:

Nice job Lynn.
If you guys want to put together a trip, let me know and we can take my boat out if you’d like. We’ll need about 4 or 5 to make it affordable.

We’ll see, I have one or two that would be interested.
That’s the good thing about taking my boat, two of us can go without causing EWS (empty wallet syndrome). Obviously, the benefits of a bigger boat like yours outways the “Misquito Fleet” advantages (if there are any besides $$). We need to get together soon and slay some cudas. I’ll be in touch…
