Hooked up with Lynn and his neighbor “Mr. Carl” Friday morning at 5:15 AM for a little nearshore action. We headed for Shem Creek shortly there after with the intention of picking up some spades at the nearshore reef. The ride out was sweet, but the fishing was slow, so we picked up and headed to the Charleston 60.
The spades were there, but the schools were smaller as well as the individual fish size than they had been the previous week at the Edisto 60. The bite was picky too, the spades were acting a little shy. We had shrimp, and some jelly balls that a friend of Lynn’s had tossed us after we anchored up. We put 8 in the boat, lost a few, caught a Spanish on shrimp, a small shark and a nasty looking 10" long crustacean that we verified later as a Mantis Shrimp.
The ride in was a little bumpier than going out, but a great time was had by all. Thanks again Lynn for the trip. It was great to meet Mr. Carl, and spend another day on the water with good freinds!!
I had a great time also. Even though Karl had it tough at times out there, he said he really enjoyed it as well.
Those spades were tough the other day for sure.
I plan on going tomorrow if I can get one or two to go.
I might be going Tuesday LE if you can make it…
