Took a rookie friend fishing the bouys Sunday and we finally saw a cobia on #6. After several attempts with various lures, he threw a blind cast at the bouy and did an immediate “bill dance” hook set. Broke the line. I thought it he had the chain but he swore it was a fish so I said “cuda”. We left to check the other bouys and saw big bait balls but no fish and returned to #6 and definitavely saw a cobia. Again teased the fish boatside and saw my shimano natural small butterfly still in his mouth. He would chase the lure but shake his head like he already had a mouthful.
After 45 minutes of throwing everything in the box we left hoping the next guy would catch this fish.
So, if you would please, go to #6 bouy and catch the cobia with the butterfly jig in his mouth. You can keep the fish but I would love the jig back, they’re pricey and it was my last one.
You only get one shot a day at these fish, if you’re not ready, you’re not ready.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

j/k about the jig, but what’s funny is we have the spear on the boat, but not the gun. We were joking about jumping in and wrestling the beast, or just gaffing a green cobia. No suicidal tendencies here though, I’ll buy another jig (or ten) and make sure I use the 80# momoi leader and tell greenies Bill Dance hooksets are not needed. Going Thursday and maybe Sat too.
Yes they are exspensive and my loss per drop rate seems to be about a 1:1 ratio! Maybe I’m fishing the wrong waters or maybe the right ones but mine were not the small ones… about 50 bucks each with split rings and owner hooks [:0]lol… I think they are cheaper now though

At the time the ones iwas buying were shimano jigs… if I remember right they were like 27.99 each about 10 dollars for a pack of split rings and 13 dollars for the super sharp owner hooks.

Apparently kings really like them too but I had a problem with them hitting the leader above the jig as I was jigging
