mitzi skiffs

Been looking at maybe getting a skiff or something for lakes, creeks and rivers. A mitzi skiff has caught my eye and I like what I see. just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them good or bad. I haven’t heard anything bad of the few who has heard of the boat maker. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Very skinny boat - flat bottom - also due to flat bottom, will beat you up in rough waters. My Whaler is the same way, but I love it

I am certainly NOT an expert on the Mitzi but I did look at them for a long time bc they were a lot lower price than the big names. I only looked at one in person on a trailer several years ago. I thought it was a nice boat. According to the specs on their web site they seem like a quality boat. I would have no problem buying one.

I came across a Sundance 17 foot flats boat at a really good price so I bought that. I’ve had it 6 1/2 years and have been very happy with it. It’s also a much lower price than the big names. One thing there’s room for improvement is “dryness” of the ride when going towards but not directly into the wind. When going down wind or calm waters it’s excellent.

Don’t know if this helps. Like I said, from my experience (other than on the water) I would have no hesitation in buying one.

I’d search the hull truth

Never rode in one but I looked them over at the boat show over the last few years. I’m no expert and dont have much experience to compare other brands to but my initial impression was “sparse”. This just applies to the model they had on the floor, and I’m sure it was specifically designed around weight reduction for getting really skinny.

There was little to nothing in the boat. inside compartments were unfinished, under gunnels unfinished, rims, edges, etc… unfinished. This may be normal for technical skiffs as every ounce counts.

Not bashing, just what I observed/remember. I wanted something more finished with more storage and places to lock my gear and was willing to give up some draft for the added creature comforts.

Boats are a compromise, figure out your needs and find the best compromise.

Check out Bomb Island Boats. A lot nicer boat for less money. Made in Chapin, SC. The owner and builder stands by his boats.
