Put in at Leeds Ave. Ran down to a spot I have been trying. Got 2 trout as soon as I arrived, then nothing but stingray and a few bluecrab.
Trolled around with the cast net for a while. Pulled in some mudminnows, baby shrimp, and small mullet 2-3".
Conditions seemed right for a trip to the Jetties.
Found a spot on the channel side of the south Jetty. The Black Sea Bass were hitting shrimp, mudminnows, and small mullet.
They were small but plentiful.
Hooked onto this slot flounder which made a great dinner.
Then a first for me puffer. Didn’t feel like playing with a loaded pin cushion so I did the old lean over and pop the hook while the fish is still in the water move.
The wind changed and stirred up the water then a line of Fishing boats were coming in with their wakes slamming me around. Figured now would be a good time to leave. Headed back to the last spot.
Pulled in this cute guy.
Not sure what kind of shark this is. Never caught on before. Very pretty, feel like sand paper and very strong for their size. Very cool. Wish I had taken more pics.
Headed back in before sunset. Stopped at one last spot for one last cast. Hooked into a Gar that eventually spit the hook, but was fun pulling for a while.
Another great day on the water. So lucky to have access to natures wonders.
I don’t think that’s a sharpnose, it lacks the white spots and the pectoral fins are too rounded. My best guess is that you’ve got yourself a Finetooth, but I’m not sure. Shark identification can be a tricky thing
Looks like a sharpnose perhaps. 2nd dorsal fin begins above the middle of the anal fin. those fins on spinners and finetooths both begin at same location. also looks like there are a few small white spots but not many. Most of the time they have more spots. sharks can be difficult to ID but they are fun to reel in!
First, Hoofarded has got to be the best user name I have ever seen. Kudos on creativity and that silly bastard who cant hold a fish.
Thank you for the link. I’ll need to study it so I know what to look for and how to take ID pictures.
It’s amazing how strong these little guys are. Pure muscle.
nice day for sure. and fyi puffers dont hold, you can hold em no problem to get your hook back.
how far is it from leeds to the harbor? i pass by it every day for work and it always looks calm/glassy and i see alot of flats. i really wanna try and fish there
This is an Atlantic Sharpnose. Notice the spots. I don’t see any on the pics above. The dorsal fin has some white on the edges and the one above has black.
yakman,
Leeds Ave boat landing to the 17 Bridge at the harbor marina is 20-25 minutes at 30-35mph.
If your looking for flats areas, there are a lot of high tide flats. Google maps the area between Cosgrove bridge and 526 on the boat landing side of the river. Huge flats area, all accessible during high tides with a shallow draft. I have seen boats being pushed through there and I have seen Reds coming out as the tide dropped.
I draft too much to get in there so I am stuck stalking the creek mouths.
After looking at the NOAA link, I think it’s a Sharpnose. According to that ID info, small Sharpnose may not have those spots, but if you look close, there are a few spots by the tail, just not as obvious as RWL’s pic. edited because spell check waits for no post!

Bahahahaha! Agreed friogatto. Love Hoofarded’s name and video clip! Nice catch and thanks for sharing! That flounder might be overslot! j/k
