I am from SC, and was fishing the SC coast exclusively when I joined this site in 2001. I was always of the impression that it was a fishing site that happened to be located in Charleston. I’ve always enjoyed talking with like minded folks, regardless of where they happen to live at the time and regardless of where they last fished. I enjoy discussing baits and techniques that probably have a universal application. I’ve always been willing to share any knowledge or ideas I have that may help someone else. The last thing I want to do is offend anyone or come across as a know-it-all. I have to admit I was a little surprised to hear that my posts were “tiresome.” In looking back at the total posts I’ve made over the past 16 years, the number is very small, relatively speaking. If my few posts are out of place, I’d appreciate hearing it from a site administrator.
RWL, To echo what Harold just said, the point is to share in our fishing experience and experiences. Again, to borrow from Harold, if Admin had a problem with people posting things about fishing somewhere other than “Charleston,” it would’ve been addressed a long time ago. If someone doesn’t want to read about the fishing in another part of the country, they don’t have to read the post. It’s as simple as that. Why be “that guy” and jump on a fellow fisherman simply because they’re talking about a fishing trip that didn’t take place in “Charleston.” Frankly, that’s just plain ignorant and wreaks of being “that guy.”
I read fishing posts and fishing magazines and watch fishing shows that don’t just pertain to Charleston and I’d venture to say most on here do to. Again, no one is being forced to do so but because we love fishing, why wouldn
Just a kinda personal note: Y’all don’t pick on Harold for what he catches! Everyone on this site could go where he goes, and catch what he does if you work as hard and SMART as he did. And no-body gave him anything. On top of that, I never knew anyone who knew him who didn’t like him.
Harold,
All I can say is keep posting those pics.
U have single handedly convinced my wife to go to Venice…
I just need to get some information from you as to when to go, etc…

I’ll be glad to tell you all I know. As for when to go, what do you want to catch? Feb., March, and April are the toughest months. It’s hard to plan a trip very far in advance because the weather can be so unpredictable. Mid-May through the summer, fishing is much better. Fall is a good time, also, as the river goes down and clears up and more fish come into the river. I During October and November as the salinity increases in the bays, the bait fish move in and game fish follow the bait. Reds are often found in the cuts of the river…as are trout. Many times, I’ve gone duck hunting in the morning and fishing later the same day. I suggest that anyone coming for the first time should hire a guide. There is SO MUCH area that all looks the same. After going with a guide a few times you’ll get the feel for what and how they are fishing…and hopefully, you’ll begin to learn your way around in case you want to bring your own boat.
Keep on Harold. Sorry for being a dick. I’m normally just looking for a report on the state of our fisheries here in SC. I know they are outstanding in LA. I open a report and I’m expecting it to be from around here. Glad you get to fish down there. Wife is from Gulfport.
