Mixing ethanol gas with ethanol free?

I as well as many others have been buying gas from a station that was advertising 100% gas. Well, I found out that the new owners of the station said that the previous owners might not have been selling ethanol free like advertised. Here is the question, do I run the old tank all the way out or can I mix new ethanol free gas in the tank and hope that it cleans the ethanol out? I think the boat holds 28 gallons and I am around 1/4 of a tank.

It really ticks me off that I have bought gas several times, paid the higher price, and now not know for sure if it was actually 100%. I have owned the boat for several years now and went the extra mile(literally) to purchase ethanol free.

If you fill the tank, your ethanol content would be 2.5%. Negligible …

How do we know what the hell we are getting?
Its all bs!

Chris, how many samples does this test kit take? I just went through the carbs on my neighbors boat and he swears he was using staight:smiley: non blended fuel. I don’t think it was.

the easiest way to test ethanol is to get a clear bottle. Like a Corona bottle. put some water in the bottom and make a line to mark the water level. now pour the gas in it and put your thumb over the top and shake it vigorously. Once it settles if the “water” line is higher than it was before you shook it is the ethanol making it higher. If it is the same then you have 100% gas.

How long does it take to settle! Doesn’t sound like something you can do at the gas station and get instant results:question: Reason I’m asking is, do you need to check it out before you drag the boat to the station:question: Most times these stations are far and few between! Be a real Beouch to get there and find out it is really E-gas.

No it is almost instant. It all happens and settles in like 30 seconds.

I use an olive jar, and I have found alcohol in what was supposed to be E-free gas. Buyer beware!

If you’ve been using this gas for several years without a problem, what does it matter? If you’re really concerned, there’s a sticker on the pump that tells what agency tests the pump and gas so contact them and see what they have to say.

You can mix unadulterated gasoline with ethanol laced fuel. You will just have a lower percentage of ethanol in the total. It’s simple math if you want to figure it out.
