Mon morn. 6/28

Windy, so I tried Pine Island and found only 3 shorts, hid behind goat and nothing, headed to the Condo’s, and found 3 more short,s then anchored over 50’ water and used up bait.
BUT
after the bait was gone, only 2 doz, I noticed streams of dead flies floating by. (I know them as May Flies) Could the larger Stripers be feeding on the stream fo flies?
How does one fish this?

I have not ever seen or heard of stripers feeding on may flies, but I dont claim to be an expert on the subject. I thought about going windsurfing today because of the wind. I’m tring to get the numbers on my sea pro 1900 I just bought, but the DNR computor was down (my luck). Another wasted day. We might go out and test the boat this afternoon at the Dam, if the rain slacks off. We’ll be able to keep these shorts soon. At least having a little fish fry will keep the wife happy.

Mayflies are a favorite food for stripers and over the years on Santee Cooper, anglers have tuned into fishing for stripers during the hatches using surface lures. Food habit studies have varified the significant seasonal presence of mayflies in adult striper diets.

Monday night tried the Yamma out again, and saw bunches of flies dead on the water. Nope, the 100 hp dont like water in the fuel. Picky, Picky, Picky. The ole Merc would just cough and sputter and keep going. This dern 4 stroke is getting on my nerves. Took the motor back to the shop where they said they drained a quart of water out. Time for a water seperator. Will I ever get on the water? Keep in mind I just bought the boat.
