Took the toonboat out to jerk some perch this afternoon. Had a nice trip. Found hungry perch in the elbow area between 22’ and 30’ deep. Only problems were weak batteries and of course the striper chasers. They rocked the old toonboat operator good a couple of times. I still managed to put 27 perch and 6 stripers in the boat. 4 of the stripers were nice fat keepers. The biggest two would push 7 to 10 lbs. each. Almost all fish hit the 1/2 ounce white/silver Berry spoons. Caught a few on a 3/8 ounce spoon.
Also had something grab one of my perch on the way up and take off with it. Drag was stripping like crazy for about 25 yards then whatever it was took my perch and was gone. First time that’s ever happened to me. Wish I could have seen that fish!
Perch are striper bait… used em lots for big stripers
