Mike O. and I finally got to make a trip. we have been trying to put a trip together for the last 2 months, but I always had a boat under me when he called. We got up at 5, and it was still blowing, checked it at 7 and it went N/A…time to go. We finally got offshore around 9, and were met by a beautiful ocean. We ran to a sweet blackfish hole in 90’, and we were quickly filling the box with greenheads. I sent all the 10 lb Banded Rudderfish over to Mikes side, and he was bringing them in 2 at a time. When we decided to move, the windlass was making strange sounds. I looked over and we had brought up a 200lb piece of the Grace Bridge on the delta anchor. We checked out a few more spots, caught some more fish, and had an easy ride home. No grouper, No ARS, but plenty of endangered species, saucereye and jolthead porgies, and even a nice blacktip shark. I really had a good time on this trip, and will go with him again. It was nice not having to tie rigs, untangle lines, and run the show. Thanks Mike!

“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”
So that’s what color coral is? It’s pretty interesting how color works at 100’. Coral looks kind of greenish or brownish and those jolt heads look like they are solid gold.
Had a terrific time w/ Sellsfish. He is a pleasure to fish with - a great sense of humor and incredibly generous w/ his time and knowledge. As he said, we had an early morning dialogue w/ go or no go and I really appreciated that he wasn’t about to try to talk someone into going out if they were not comfortable w/ the weather and sea conditions. Next time, however, I’m going get the goods on him pushing shorts snd rudders to my side of the boat. Also, when the camera comes out I’m going to ditch the goofy fit-over shades and put on a hat!
Gut Wrench, thanks for the comment on the anchor… I’ve actually been worried about losing it. Any info you have on rigging a break-way w/ the delta and windlass would be appreciated. Thanks.
The ty-wrap thing works good. I have mine rigged with some small braided nylon cord that Wally-World sells in their “sporting-goods” dept. Buy it on a 50’roll and it will last longer than a pack of ty-wraps and costs less. I started rigging mine to break-away after I sacrificed one to the Reef Gods. I think my anchor is stuck in the grill of a military Hummer at the Eagle’s Nest.
What kind of fish is that in the top picture? We caught some of them Sat. in 105 ft.
Be Safe Out There!!!
that is a jolthead porgy, not to confused with the red porgy (endangered species…yeah right). They can be caught on squid or cut bait, and are a great table fish. no size limit, and are part of a 20 misc. fish bag limit.

We brought one home Saturday and the game warden thought it had to be 14" long. I explained to him that only the red porgies had to be 14" and he said ok. I’m glad I was up on my fish id and regulations, he sure wasn’t.
