My Son and I went out about 6:30 pm, 1 Doz. BB’s at Lake World, then to the towers. Caught three real fast in 40ft, then nothing else. Took off to secret cove looking and finding zip. Returned to the towers at dark and caught nothing else. When we first got to the towers, counted 11 boats. Many others in the middle. We didnt see hardly anyone else catch any fish. I felt lucky to get the three, smallest 20, largest 24. A very good time with my Son whose about to head back to Clemson for his third year. Maybe we’ll go again this week in the PM. We’ll go early as possible this time.
It seems like they turn off like a switch as soon as the sun goes down. I don’t think the towers have been as good as last year either. Last year I could catch fish all night at the towers along with all the other boats. This year it is pretty slow. I have not fished before dark at the towers so maybe they are there earlier. I kind of only fish there when my first spot shuts down.
i’m headed out with a buddy this afternoon as i said in the solunar thread.
he’s very green, but hopefully i can put him on some fish. me too, of course, my freezer is empty as of this weekend!
anybody else headed out today?

i might be able to head out friday night. … to be determined …
Well—I don’t have much to report for Tuesday afternoon…I got “skunked” again…no fish in the boat…
Marked fish around 60’ in 120’ of water about two hundred yards from towers…but southeast wind was terrible…had to anchor instead of drift (like I wanta do)…had one pulldown…and that was it…
a lot of boats at the towers…dodging the southeast wind…saw two fish caught…both very SMALL…did not mark a lot of fish around the towers…I am losing confidence in my Lowrance 240…
Steeley…I need to check to see if I am working Friday night…will not know until tomorrow late…will let you know ASAP…
Sounds good Carl. I would beleive your Lowrance 240, I have not seen as many there this year. It has not been as hot this year so I guess they can spread out a little more than other years. At least that is my theory.
i feel your pain carl… skunkcity for me as well. i thought for a while the wind was going to lay down (9pm or so) but alas… it kicked up with a vengence. same report here. marking fish with regularity from 60 - 100 ft, some nice bait balls, but no takers. only saw 1 fish caught, looked decent size 25" or so… total guess.
oh well… beautiful sunset
Sorry to hear about the Goose eggs. I was thinking about going tonight, but might re-think it.

me and my wife are probably going out for a couple hours, more of a sunset cruise, but i’ll take some cut bait along, might get the line wet. i figure i’ll head towards spence and anchor just off the channel and see what happens.
I would like to try to cutbait fish the south side of bomb. The channel cuts in real close and it drops quick. I am catching pretty consistent fish on downlines so I have not tried it.

a guy on another forum told me that the re-used frozen herring is worthless, which honestly doesn’t make too much sense to me. aren’t all fish opportunistic eaters, especially the big boys? wouldn’t they rather snap up a quick easy meal then expend a lot of energy, especially in a low oxygen environment? seems logical.
I have heard the same thing but that is not the case in my experience. Last year I was at Wateree river and netted a ton of shad. I froze them and used them all spring and into the summer. They worked for me on the river. I did not have a boat at that time so I was just riverfishing. I will say that they fall off easier and are softer.
Steely…I have to work Friday night…so, can’t fish…keep me posted…we will have to get together soon…
Frozen bait gets soft and mushy so fast…even when I keep on ice before I use…but I have been sucessful on Lake Marion with frozen bait. I guess it depends on how hungray they are.
I just talked to guy who said he was catching fish in 100-120’ water near the landing in front of the inlet where the sailboats are keep (not sure the name of this place)…he was fishing 90’ deep…he was anchored in one spot.
good luck guys…
