Monday report

Fished with a new friend today. Put in and fished around Shull for a while without a bite. Since the water was pretty muddy there we decided to bite the bullet and head toward Bear creek. We got a little bit wet crossing the lake this morning. The water felt like ice hitting us.
Marked fish at our first stop in the creek. Caught a short striper at 38’. Found fish that would bite sporadically at five different places in and around the creek and up as far as Timberlake. Some were as shallow as 36’ and deep as 52’. Best action seemed to be between 38’ and 43’ but it was pretty slow all day. Only caught between 55 and 65 perch and one very nice largemouth. Kept around 43 perch. Almost every fish including the striper and largemouth hit the 3/4 ounce silver Cotton Cordell spoons. Broke something off that felt pretty big probably a big striper or catfish.
If I was going again tomorrow I’d start farther down the lake than we were today and look for the clearest water I could find.

Shame ya only caught 55to65 fish LOL What was the water temp in Bear today ???

TOM GITTO

I caught them at the mouth of johns creek Saturday 40 to 50 ft not what we were after but better than nothing they blacked the screen out from 30 to 50 ft

We didn’t have a temp sensor on the boat, I’d guess between 45 and 47. But the water that was hitting me in the face this morning on our way across felt much colder than that!!
They definitely were not “on the feed” today. Pretty much glued to the bottom at every place, when we were lucky enough to mark them. I’d think they will be hungry and “on the feed” again on Wednesday or Thursday. Only a couple were spitting out fresh looking shad today. That indicates that they probably fed several days ago.

When Spoon jigs all day for 65 perch, that is a slow day. He’s that good with the metal:smiley:

Fog, Thanks for the compliment. I hope to be as good as you and your Dad one day. Mostly I just get lucky.
The largie and some of the perch bit right in front of my grandma’s old home place. Made it kind of special for me to catch some fish near where the family used to fish. She was an avid fisherwoman and I’m fortunate enough to have one of her old baitcasting reels. Think I’ll spool it up and try some perch fishing with it before too long. It is still in pretty good condition.
