Decided late Monday to give it a try. Decided to launch out of Koon so I decided to get bait at the new place on Shull road. $8 a dozen but he gave me double what I paid so worked out fine. Bait was on the small size but very healthy. Even after 2 days the water was clear, bait healthy and not many scales in the catcher.
Monday I tried to fish in beaverdam but the NE wind was sending white caps into the creek. Tried over at wessinger again, marked some fish but no bites after 1.5 hours of fighting the wind I gave up right before dark. Decided I would go fish the dam Tuesday since the wind was coming from that direction.
Tuesday I launched from the dam and found some fish on Hollywood point. Picked up two nice keepers, both were 24". Fish were fat and fought much better. Water was down to 76*. Wind was blowing pretty good but manageable. Fish vanished as the sun went down. I searched the towers and along the dam and didn’t mark much of anything. Called it quits about 8:30. By far two of the earliest quitting times for me. Went home and watched the Pirates clinch a playoff spot against the braves, woohooo.
Good for the Pirates huh? Braves even fired the gm a week early this year! Oh-congrats on da fish!

Where on Shull road is the bait shop? I bought at Lake World, but if there is someplace closer to the launch area, that would be nice.

I had 2 freelines and 2 down. All hits and fish came on the down. Had one FL with a splitshot and one without. Bait stayed alive the entire time.
It is a sporting goods shop right as you turn off of 378 onto Shull. Can’t miss it. They have a small metal building for the herring.

Oh, wanted to add that I checked out the points out from Jaked and the beach. With the wind blowing to it I thought it might be tough fishing but they should be there. No sign of bait or fish on that side. Searched from the beach up to the jakes channel. Wind was terrible over there with a steady stream of white caps. I was willing to try it if there were fish, just spot lock into the wind.

I recall the store now, just wasnt sure what it was when I was heading home the other night. It was my first try at Shull. The landing and cove is nice for kayaks and it’s not too far of a paddle to deep water.

The store is called J.C.'s Outdoors, 803-449-4056. I also saw where they got ethanol free gas.
