mono vs braided

what does everyone prefer? after doing some online research it seems that each has equal pros and cons. ive been a mono guy all of my life. is the braided worth the price difference? how much does lb test come into play?

happy fishin’.

i use braid with or flour leader, 20# test for inshore

i had braid-floro on my rig saturday. shad fishin. i got severely outfished by my friend using 6 lb test mono right beside me.

Andes Tournament 12# mono the last 5 years. Respool spring and fall. Use saved/extra money for plastics. Once I can blame losing a fish on my line not the angler then I may switch.

I use braid on all my reels. 15# on the 30’s , 20# on the 40’s, 65 to 80# on my offshore rigs.

I like the abrasion resistance and castability of the braid.

I use all braid… big advantage is no strech, and line diameter. 20 lb braid is about the same size as 6 lb mono. You just have to get used to getting wind knots if you are not careful, One trick is to close the bail manually instead of it closing as you turn the reel handle.

i use braid with a mono leader because I’ve been told that it’s what the pimps use.

Braid with a fluoro leader, but I use a mono backing on the spool - helps keep the braid from getting loose and digging into itself and cuts down on how much of it I have to buy.

i use both depending on how i feel that day considering wind/oysters or no oysters/etc etc

My Alvey surf rod/reel are strung with 35# braided spider wire. It is much more durable than mono and more sensitive. My Penn 80,30’s, etc all have monofilament. One day when I can afford to respool them with braided I will. We use to spool my dad’s 80’s with dacron back in the day. All of my lines end with a Bimini Twist. Just wish braided line didn’t cut ya so much.

Mono. I have a small spinning rig with Braid, but rarely use it.

If you can’t stand behind our soldiers, try standing in front of them.

Both, Mono on all of my trolling gear and braid on the bottom and surf gear. Mono on the freshwater gear but that gets used only a couple of times a year.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Trout it doesn’t really matter with but for reds, 10lb braid with a 20 lb mono leader works great. Some reds don’t like the color of braid but if put an mono leader on there, it’s fine. If you fish enough, mono stretches out and then breaks easier. Braid has no stretch in it.

20lb sufix braid on most rods with varying flouro leader depending on application. 30 for any dock/structure fishing.

30lb sufix mono on tlds and 60lb sufix braid on baitrunners for poons/big bass.
