Thought some of you might be interested in this (copied from the Lowcountry Paddlers E mail):
"First - As word is out that a number of Tackle Dealers & Suppliers are discussing and wanting to initiate a Kayak Fishing Tournament in 2007 (and with the reality of the work and involvment necessary to do this) the group thought it wise to let the Anglers stores handle any tournament - and we will hopefully participate.
Second - Much information was offerred for gear, bait, tackle, rigging (Flush mounted rod holders are available at Charleston Water Sports).
Third - Sites which offer pertinent info are www.paddling.net www.kayak4fish.com www.charlestonfishing.com
Fourth - It was agreed that it might be great fun to hold a “Group Kayak Fishin Day”
Just a time for us to get togeather and fish - so …here it is…
All Fishers are invited
What - A Group Kayak Fishin Day
When - Sat, August 12th, 06 - morning (high tide is about 11 am - fishing is generally good 2 hours before and 2 hours after high tide)
Where - Garris Landing / Moores Landing for Bulls Bay - Cape Romain
Concept - put in about 8:30 - return about noon - bring your own lunch and goodies and we can all share stories and lies
Michael "
For those of you not familiar with the Lowcountry Paddlers, they are the local paddling club. Great bunch of guys and gals. Should be a fun trip!

i think the idea of a kayak fishing tournament is a great idea…i’d do it for sure
until someone gets that organized - i was thinking, back in FL the folks on the Outdoors Best forum had an online kayak fishing tourney – the way it works is people take pics of fish in their yak next to a tape…check out
Mullet, you might reach him sooner on the NC/SC forum at KFS? Plus he might be in the Northwest, don’t know when but he was supposed to go there this summer. I wouldn’t mind fishing in it but won’t be able to, Haven shoulder surgery a week from this Friday. Looks like I’ll miss all the good fishing this fall.
Consider it done Cutmullet… Already posted it on KFS-Geargia/SC forum.
Again, an Informal Tourney, with nothing for prizes except bragging rights. Would like to have a get together afterwards of eatin’, drinkin’$h1T talkin’.
Trying to lure some more from up your way, upstate and in Jaw-Jaw for the get together…
As Cutmullet will tell you, the Seatrout are HOT in early November, as are the flounder…
Meeting at Hunting Island Lagoon on the first Sat morn. Fishing until we are tired of catching.
lets do a tourney this fall the way livestoked suggested.i think alot of people would enjoy this.have a get together afterwords.give all a chance to meet everyone else.tell all the fush stories…

This could be done…Tried to organize something similiar last fall, and this spring… Lots of problems with making it formal, including insurance, advertising, prizes, etc…
We therefore kept BARF I (Beaufort Area Redfish Flotilla) lowkey on purpose… No prizes just braggin’ rights.
I would be willing to do a largest fish pot, based on the concept you proposed… Could recover gas money that way, and maybe some for lunch. $10.00 per person, largest redfish, seatrout or flounder wins the pot.
Early November is a GREAT time to be on the water here in Beaufort, and the Hunting Island Lagoon is a great place to hold such a get together.
