Took the girlfriend and the kids out to Morris Island yesterday for a little while. Tried to find bait without much luck in the creeks. Saturday in Lighthouse Inlet it was full of menhaden; not yesterday, though. Found a little pool holding a few minnows on the sand bar and that’s all we needed. Water was moving hard on the incoming tide and to my surprise we hooked up with a nice red!
Nice catch. I usually throw something out while waiting on my wife to shell but usually sharks. I was there Saturday and the birds were going at it so assumed it was menhaden coming in.
DownLow, I thought for sure it was a shark at first. The menhaden were everywhere. Good size ones too. I caught about 20 in my cast net thinking they were going to be tiny. They were all around 8".
Good one. I was there Thursday and there was no bait, no activity, and no fish caught or seen caught.

This awesome rod/reel setup is one Walmart special. Zebco Splash 20 for $24.99!! Luckily I replaced the line with some 15lb braid. It has actually held up pretty nicely for the last year. This is by far the biggest fish and best test to date.
