Howdy ya’ll! Been a while since I posted anything on here. Haven’t been back home to SC in a while though. Itching to get back and do some fly fishing but that will not be for a while
Anyway, I’m going on a business trip in April to Orlando and I want to try my luck at the famed Mosquito Lagoon while I’m there. Was wondering if any of you have ever fished it and could recommend a good guide to contact?
I have fished with Capt. Todd Fuller several times. Great guy. He lived in Orlando at the time and drove across. He also works at hells bay boat works and runs one of their boats now. At the time he had hpxt. I think you can get in touch with him through Orlando Outfitters. Looks like his website is down.
You may want to check out Willi Li also. Young guide, seems to know his stuff. He actually uses fullers old hpxt.
Fishing there can be tough. Try to give yourself several days if you can.
Capt. Chris.
Scott MacCalla. He’s the only guide ive ever fished with down there and he put us on a lot of fish. Not only a lot number wise, but also several quality 30-40lbers. He runs a Gordon flats boat with I think was bought out by Hells Bay so they’re pretty much the same boat.
Call Capt. Willy Le - www.nativeflycharters.com - he is young and a hard-working guide. Heck of a photographer too so you will come back with good photos of the trip. He is a fellow contributor on www.saltyshores.com . 321-303-7805
Thanks for all the recommendations guys! I’ll be sure to check them all out.
I was also wondering if anyone could clue me in on tipping guides? This will be my first guided trip and I’ve heard you should tip your guide but I don’t really know anything more than that… what’s a sufficient amount?
I went late March last year. We used Brian Clancy at mosquitolagoonfishcamp.com
He owns the camp and also guides. Highly recommended. He was featured quite often in florida sportsman magazine.
The schools were just breaking up in late March. Make sure to ask what techniques will be used i.e. sightfishing or live bait fishing, etc. They werent really tailing for us when we we there.
