Hunting tomorrow? Better carry a can of bug spray into the woods with you. Hunted Wednesday & Friday mornings, and the Mosquitos were unbelievable. Therma-Cell would not run all of them off while in the tree, and I used two units this morning with little improvement. Once on the ground they swarmed me to the point of me wanting to run out of the woods.
Haven’t seen them this bad since hurricane Hugo…
About 7 years ago I was sitting in a chair on the ground in Goose creek. I was in a spot out past Carnes Cross Rds and they were so thick my coveralls, gloves, gun and everything else turned black. I’d shake them off and they came straight back. Finally gave up because they were trying to stab my face and ears through the netting and the buzzing was worse than this dang tinnitus I have now.

I did see a chopper spaying around santee wma, maybe they will kill a few dozen of them.

Youre right about the mosquitos this week. Not sure whats up with them but they’re out in full force this week. Been using the highest deet concentration I can find in bug spray and they’re still getting me. They’re frustrating right now to say the least.

I hunt box stands in Awendaw. They swarm you while your going to your stand (even with spray) but once I settle in my blind some 40% deet was enough to keep them away. They are awful thick though. Yesterday and last weekend they were on me so bad while walking they were getting between my eyes and glasses… The spray kept me from getting many bites but (**() they were annoying.

We were down in Dorchester CTY this past Sat hunting. MAN - it’s been many years since I have seen them that bad! Soaked down in 40% deet and a Thermocell and a headnet. They looked like smoke coming out of the bushes on the way to your stand. Not very high on my fun scale.
About dusk they sounded like a high pitched hum non stop.

The skeeters are so bad where I am at that the deer are not moving either. Usually, I get 1500 to 2000 pics on the camera in a week. last week, was about 200…and no bucks–even at night. The warmers weather and skeeters gone mad are rough on the deer too. I have been fishing instead waiting for the cooler temps starting Friday. I still don’t see cool enough weather to kill the skeeters anytime soon, but low to mid 40’s at night will at least make morning hunting skeeter free.
