The place I store my boat doesn’t have a hose available to flush the motor. There are a few car-washes nearby, that have coin-activated pressure washers, but no regular hoses. It is way out of the way to take it home, (plus the neighbors probably don’t appreciate me running the motor especially later in the night) Anybody know of anywhere with “hose service” near John’s Island/Limehouse area? How do those of you that store your boat flush your motor? Thanks for the help.
I have never used one but I saw a boater use what looked to me like a large heavy duty plastic bag to flush his motor. The thing stood up and he filled it with what looked like 7 or 8 gallons of water and fired it up. Seemed to work for him.

They make flush bags for outboards. Water will still be your issue unless you can carry 5 gallons of water. You will also have to watch out for over heating if you pee goes back in the bag.
A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.
Here’s a post that I made a while back for a person in hilton head.
Works for me, but I have a smaller motor.

I made a rig myself for flushing my 15hp motor. I get funny looks all the time and the DNR said he was wondering why I was cranking it up “on the hill”. hahaha.
Everything you need is available from lowes!
Get a 5 gallon bucket and lid (grey bucket, white lid)
Drill a “fill” hole into the lid and one to attach a hose bib into.
Buy the union fitting to attach to the lid.(they’re white, come in two pieces and are on the plumbing isle mounted on the board of other fitting items)
Buy your hose bib, i use the one that has a lever for easy on/off.
Buy the 6’ hose from the garden area that’s used to connect a hose reel to the house.
Use your own flush ears since you probably have those.I fill up my 5 gallons of water at the apartment and rinse out WHILE THE MOTOR IS HOT at the ramp and that’s what’s recommended! I have a 15 hp and it runs for around 2 minutes.
I stick a plastic bag in the fill hole to keep it from sloshing everywhere in my truck during transport.
It will still cost around $30 even without the ears, but it works. Set the bucket on it’s side on the back of the boat(with the fill hole on top and the bib on bottom, make sure you lay the ears on the ground and get a good stream of water going through them first is the key.
If that confuses you too much I’ve attached a picture, but feel free to PM me if you need some help.
I still like to think this is my idea but I’m sure it’s not. It works!
Problem solved guys. My neighbor is a genius. He said “why dont you get one of those tubs and dip it in the water at the ramp?” The bad part is it took him longer than a few seconds to realize why he was an idiot. Sometimes (actually often) I wonder about our country. Thanks guys. I will try the bucket idea this weekend. I don’t see why that wouldn’t work. I’m not sure how much water it actually uses while flushing, but worst case I bring an extra bucket of water. I would think 5 gallons would be enough though. Yeah apartment living just isn’t made for me. They aren’t very redneck friendly. People are always wondering what project I’m working on in the parking lot, and I get some funny looks when I clean fish and shrimp at the carwash in the apt. The boat storage place is supposedly working on installing a hose down area. Sure would be nice.
Make a friend who owns a house nearby? You can stop by anytime here and flush your motor, but I’m 100 miles from you.

Yeah I’m working on that. I’m currently accepting applications for a friend with house near John’s island. Must have a hose. You get extra points if you have a dock also. I think I’ll start a new thread for that one. Haha, that would be the best thing though! Cracker Larry I see your in Clyo. My wife’s family farms in Sylvania, so I pass through Clyo on the way home. (Going to be passing through pretty often now that we started picking cotton) We’ve lived in Rincon, Savannah and Bluffton for the last few years. Just moved up here to Charleston.

Stop by anytime you’re passing through. I’m on the Clyo Shawnee road so you may go right past my driveway coming from Sylvania. 912-655-5674
Yall picking cotton already? Most of it here is just starting to boll.

Yep I go right by your house then. They have defoliated some, probably start picking in a week or two. Hoping the price will go up. Going to be a tough year if it doesn’t.
I have 100 ft of hose AND I live on Johns Island. Right on Southwick. What say you?

if you have a car wash at the apt, just hook up a hose to the faucet and flush you motor. That’s what I’ve been doing at our apt.!
JiNative I say I’ll be by there next weekend. I’ll pay you in a portion of the my catch of the day. I hope you like stingray, cause thats mostly what I managed to catch Saturday. ha
I do rinse and flush at my apartment, but it is out of the way, and I know the drill at apartments. Somebody, somewhere will complain about it sooner or later. I bought the stuff for my bucket flusher, just haven’t put it together yet.
At least you are catching something. I finally found time to go fishing Sunday evening over on that dock by the St. Johns marina and caught nothing.
