how much more fuel efficiency can i expect from a 4 stroke compared to a 2 stroke?
I have a 21 foot 150 4 stroke Yamaha. If I go from Charleston to the Gulf Stream, troll all day, zig ziag back over commanche, then to home , @ 36- 40 gallons.
Cruising all day on Stono River , Charleston Harbor, on a mandatory " wife day" maybe 10 gallons
I love it . Make sure to use 100% gas or a fuel additive.
Motor noise is another big factor. If you are trying to justify the cost in fuel savings to switch from a 2 to 4, it will be tough to make the numbers work unless you fish offshore a lot. The fuel savings are pretty significant, but the cost to repower is expensive as well.
They are also more “green”, ie they don’t dump oil out the exhaust into the water
2000 SeaPro 180CC w/ Yammy 115 2 stroke
1966 13’ Boston Whaler w/ Merc 25 4 stroke “Flatty”
