got on the lake today and motor ran hot.notice it wasnt peeing.when the motor shut off we could hear a sizzling noise in motor…is that the water pump that have went out…![]()
Sounds like a water pump. Are you sure the pee hole is clear? Lots of times you can suck things up in it or a bug can lodge stuff in there as well. Check that out before you replace the pump.
If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.
Take cowling off and pull pee hose lose from engine. Hose may be stopped up if it was working earlier. Possibly ran in shallow water and stirred up lots of mud and trash which worhed its way around.
thanks scoutin4goodies and carolinacoot…yeah it was peeing when we first pulled off and a few minutes up the lake i notice it had stop and the motor was smoking…well when i pull the cowling off and hose hopefully it needs to be cleaned out.if i do need a water pump are they expensive for a 81 Evinrude 35hp…thanks again guys
The seal kit, with impeller (water pump), included is probably less than $35.00. The impeller itself is probably less than $14.00. Call me if you need any help! Seeya, Scott
thanks scott
took off cowling yesterday and my hose connected to the pe hole was off the nipple and was clogged up.also noticed that it was like sand/dirt in the bottom of motor casing.guess it end up clogging up and the force popped it off the nipple discharging sand and dirt that had got sucked through foot…also noticed my fuel pump and carburator had water in gas.drained all gas thru hoses, fuel pump and carburator.adding pure gas today…that was my big mess up saturday…should have known to use pure gas…i can tel the difference now when i try to pull the cord to crank it…thanks carolinacoot,scoutin4goodies and scott for your help…![]()

Glad you got it, gonefishing!!
Now if I can get my 72 65hp to cool correctly I’ll be ok. Think my problem is a little worse. Possibly partially blocked passages from salt build up.
where do you think the passages might be getting blocked up at carolinacoot…let me ask you something carolinacoot,I see you have a older year model motor to,do it give you alot o problems.i see some people with older year models with no problems and some people do have problems.then i see people with newer motors having more problems than people with older motors.![]()
I think I’ve seen on this site somewhere a thread on some sort of solvent you could run through engine to disolve salt build up?

GF I’m not an expert but all I could afford were older motors. I have a 88 110hp johnson that ran good until started having fuel issues but I think I’ve figured that one out. However now it has a bad power pack and broken throttle cable. The 65hp runs like a champ but right now it is having issues. Was out shrimping a couple of seasons ago when the electric shift locked in forward gear. Motor didn’t get flushed cause it was locked in gear and it sat up untill about 2 months ago. Son kept saying he had people wanting to give him motors but I haven’t seen them.
Finally I broke down and fixed it and now just need to clean carbs and clear out the passages. Put a strong battery on it with a fresh tank of gas and it fired right up after sitting almost 2 years. One of my neighbors has a 77 35 hp evinrude and a 78 115 evenrude and they run great.
