Motor Shuts Off While Running

I have a 2005 60hp Mercury 2-stroke that just recently as I was under way at full throttle, just shut off as if I turned the switch, it cranks right back up and runs find until I get full throttle for awhile then shuts off again, cranks back up and no more issues the rest of the day, until the next time out, same situation again, then all is well the rest of the day. Any suggestions.

sorry for your trouble but i will say you have fuel issue from what you have described.Sounds alot like fuel filters, sep or engine. But could be a pump not being able to keep up under load.let me know if i can be of any assistance

Have you checked to make sure you don’t have water in the fuel?

Three-fourths of the Earth’s surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

sounds like ignition for it shut off like that, if it were fuel, it would get worse the longer you ran it. Check the kill switch and ignition switch, make sure the kill switch isn’t half pulled out. Check the wire harness for any unusual kinks or breaks in the wiring

My last boat did this a few times to me, it turned out to be the primer bulb in the fuel line. It was collapsing. I replaced it and had no more probblems.

Cheap thing to try…

you could put an end to the mystery, bring it by and let me look it over.Free of charge!!! be glad to help you out.

I had the same problem with a 115 hp Merc. Turned out to be a broken “O” ring on the fuel line connection. Hope this helps.

If your tank is made in the hull it could be the safety check valve, not sure exactly what it’s called. It will only allow gas to flow toward the motor, prevents fire from going thru your fuel line into the tank. I had one stick sometimes & did the same thing. I took it off & used scredriver & hammer to beat the ball valve out of it & put back in. No more problems, then can buy a new one to replace it, not that expensive.
