I have a new to me polar kraft 1862 jonboat that is a 92 “tunnel” hull. what that means today is different than what they call tunnel but I digress. the motor on the boat is kaput, and Im on the hunt for another. The sticker/placard with max ammo is long gone. So im wondering what size motor would be on the upper end of the weight or power end???
Id say 90 max. Put it on a jack plate. We used to run 30mph in 2 feet of water on my friends 20’ Duracraft with a tunnel hull. He had a 115 Yamaha on it. I was uneasy riding in it that shallow, but he knew the boats limits, and the waterways.

we gonna gig in the tunnel hull brah?
90 IS ALOT OF WEIGHT ON THE BACK OF THAT BOAT UNLESS YOU CAN FIND A LATE MODEL 2 STROKE YAMAHA 90
IT WILL RUN GREAT WITH A 70

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING
thanks for the helpful input guys! Chris it had a 70 on it that would make it run about 32-34 when it was healthy but it lost compression/power over the years. Got a line on a old yamaha 115 2 stroke (is that the same block as the 90?) I know that will hurt my draft some but I might be using it to tournament fish some so I’d really like to be able to run 40+
It is a different block. The 90 is an inline 3 cylinder, while the 115 is a V block 4 cylinder.

The best advice I’ve ever received when asking about what motor to put on a boat, “The max is the min.”
That being said, there’s no one here who is more qualified to answer this question than Chris V.
