Motor Stand

Has anyone used an engine stand from harbor freight or northern tool to hold a large outboard and if so how did it work? Is there any brackets that need to be added? I am in need of a stand for a 150hp and a 200hp.

Would this work?

You might be able to adjust them to fit the transom bracket on your outboard. Havent seen a car engine stand used for and outboard but not saying it cant be done.

I always just build one out of 2X6s when I need one. Take it apart when finished and do something else with the wood. Cheaper than even Harbor Freight, stronger and it ain’t built in China.

The Engine stand you show could be modified to work but is not designed for that application, you would probably need to raise the mounting block for a long shaft and i would pin the swivel mount so it could not spin, but with a cutting torch and welder it would work…:slightly_smiling_face:

I have used the engine stands from harbor freight to support 250hp outboards with no issues. Had to make a mount out a piece a lam beam. I think I still have one in my garage. I could take a picture of it if you havent figured anything out yet, I woudl also be willing to sell it

Have made stands from pallots! One flat on the ground and one bolted at 90 deg. in the ctr. braced with 2x4 diagonaly bolt a 2x8 on the top and bolt the engine on it. Use bolts as the weight of the motor will pull loose nails and screws! You can install dolly wheels on the bottom for easy moving!
