motor turns on but not off.

took the boat out this weekend to do some fishin …out for 6 hours before problem. pulled up to a spot, set anchor, went to turn off motor. nada. thing wouldnt shut off. didnt feel like messin w/ it so i just unplugged the fuel line to let the g run out. cranks fine, works with and with out the kill switch, so thats not a prob. anyone ever had this happen to them or know what is wrong w da motor?

sounds like something in your ignition switch. is the nut tight or is does it have play in it when you turn the key?

its got some play…you think i should just tighten up the nut? ill give that a try this afternoon. just didnt have the tools on the water w/ me sunday

give it a try

Exact thing Happened to me. Ended up going back to the landing and then shutting it down.
Was in the boonies…S. Edisto river with little ones aboard…too much of a scaredy cat to keep fishing.

Ended up replacing the ignition switch. May have been overkill, but peace of mind is worth it to me.

keyswitch

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

That happened to mine. The key switch was just twisting…untwisted the wires, tighten the nut. gtg

negative on bad switch. took it to my mechanic after work yesterday after messing with it without any results. a wire under the cowling (Black with Yellow stripe) on my 2000 50hp Johnson had corroded and snapped off the wiring harness. quick fix with a portable soldering iron. the hardest part was gettin the gasket back on the lower section of the motor cover. thanks for all the suggestions…
