Motor up or Motor down

I have been wanting to ask this question and keep forgetting to post it. I have always run my motor all the way down when I get home. I see others that leave their motor trimmed up. Which is the best? What would be the reason for leaving it trimmed up?

Just askin’

I leave mine down so all the water drains out and so the boat cover fits better. Also, it takes the load off the hydraulics. Leaving it trimmed up means you don’t have to worry about driving off with the motor down.

Yep, down.

Just remember to trim it up before you leave drive way. Have seen motors skegs being ground up by asphalt on the interstate!

What about when you have your boat docked in the water for 12-24 hours on vacation between fishing trips. After flushing the engines, do you trim up out of the water or leave down. I’ve seen it done both ways, and can think of good arguments for each. And would it be a different answer for Florida waters than ours(change in salinity levels)?

leave trimmed up unless the temp is going to get below freezing.

down and to the starboard (to hide the stearing cable inside) down or level to keep the oil in the pistons from pooling and the water out. when at the dock i keep it out of the water. jan
