Motor stopped peeing recently. Made sure hose wasn’t obstructed.
Took plastic screens off foot & noticed several small pieces of rubber fell out. Turns out that was part of the impeller.
Replaced impeller. Motor fired right up, but still no water. I’m thinking maybe some of the debri from the impeller got sucked up there. Gonna try compressed air back through the hose to force the debri out. Might try to concentrate water through that way too.
not likely that compressed air will work
take out the thermostat
crank it up on the water hose and run it at higher rpms with the t-stat housing open and it may flush it out
I helped my son replace the impeller in his Suzuki 25 hp motor a few weeks ago. The water pump housing looked good enough to me, so we just replaced the impeller.
After replacing the impeller it would not pee. He then bought the water pump housing, and it peed like a racehorse!
Evidently, it does not take much wear in the housing to weaken the water pump’s output.
I bought new housing too ($20 @ Seel’s), but ended up not using it. The existing housing looked just fine. Maybe I’ll try switching it out if the air trick doesn’t work. I appreciate the insight.
My son’s housing just had light wear and one shallow groove. I was surprised that little wear could make such a difference. Might not be your problem, though.
Flushed lower unit with impeller & housing removed. Used compressed air to make sure pee hose was clear. Replaced old impeller housing with new one. Not sure what the culprit ended up being, but I’m back in action. (**() it feels good to not have to pay a mechanic or worse yet have to wait weeks to get it looked at this time of year. $30 for the impeller, $20 for the housing, and gained some knowledge along the way. Not too bad.
I’ve got a 2006 Yamaha 70, and the dang dirt daubers love to climb up the pee tube and build mud nests in the thermostat housing. I’ve learned finally (yeah, I’m slow) to stick a piece of tape over the hole while it’s in the yard. Saves a lot of trouble.
Got dirt dabber problems too, solved mine with pipe cleaners : thread them up pee hole and pull out when needed; keep several in boat they can be used over and over several times.
