My saltwater motorguide quick working while fishing yesterday. It was running fine when I pulled it up to move. When I put it back in it wouldn’t work. A quick trouble shooting this morning points to the motor itself. 36+ volts to the plug and the wiring in the plug is good (I only did a resistance test there). While fiddling with the motor I heard a click in the lower unit area and the motor ran briefly until I stopped it. Then nothing else. The only “authorized” repair facility I see online is Barrier Island. Any input on their service or who else is good and reasonable. The motor is well outside of any warranty so that isn’t a concern. I just want it fixed for a fair price.
I haven’t found a shop yet in Chas that will work on motorguide. Hard to believe but that’s my experience.
I took mine to Marshall’s in Georgetown. They got it working and were good to deal with…but I’ve got a lot of play in my steering that I want to get fixed too. Let me know if you find someone and I’ll do the same

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING
Feather thrower, I have had no luck. I found someone who is checking it since it is an electrical issue on a basic hand steer model. So nothing fancy to inspect. However, I was wanting to replace it with an i5 one day but not anymore if I can’t get local support.
I hear ya. The xi5 gets great reviews, but I don’t think I’d buy another MG simply b/c there is no service locally. Kinda sux
