I got a skiff through a trade not long ago. It has a motorguide varmimax SW55 trolling motor on it that seems new. The guy I bought it from said he has only had it for a few months. It has been running great but I think leaving it in the rain has caused some issues. Forgot to tarp the boat during a storm. It works fine but wont go into reverse. The digital lights start going crazy with flashing when I go in reverse. I plan on calling motorguide if I can’t figure it out, but I was hoping someone has experienced something like this and has some insight. Any info is appreciated.

It’s a pretty common problem with the varimax motors. I had one on my last skiff. Either a problem with cheap plastic parts in the throttle handle or the variable switch. Take apart the throttle handle and try the switch directly. Then you can order the parts. Don’t think there is a significant warranty.

Thats what I was thinking. I’ll have to play with it. Thanks.
