Just picked up a Perception Aquaterra Chinook two weeks ago. Have been out on the Wando twice and pulled out at hobcaw both times. Do any of you guys have oner of these with rod holders mountewd on it, or a similar design with rod holders? I would like to know what type to go with and how you mounted them to the yak. Thanks.

Johnny Bar NEW!
Brand new never used-$45.00
The Johnny Bar is a totally unique kayak accessory attachment system. It allows you to attach a variety of accessories securely to your kayak without having to mounted them permanently. The Johnny Bar itself can be added to and removed from the deck in a matter of seconds, leaving behind a few deck loops. In many cases you can attach it to your kayak’s existing deck hardware.
I use Scotty rod holdrs and they rock… You can pick them up at Dicks in WA for about $16-20 each… Dolphin dave at Time Out has a better selection… what ever way you go, fluch mounts ot base mounts make SURE you use a good marine silicone sealer on the screw holes and the screws thenselves… rod holders are a must for fishin but having yer boat leaking isn;t
If you can’t reach the inside of the yak to attach a nut onto the back of the small bolt holding the rod holder or other acc. can use a self backing cherry rivet (blind rivet) that will expand on the inside surface of the kayak to act as a backing washer, they also have a small o ring under the head to help seal too. This is what the manufactures use to attach items to kayaks securely when they can’t thru bolt most of the times. A lot of the times the rivet mandrel will break off just above the surface of the rivet head making a nasty fishing line catcher and you can just give it a tap with a small hammer and punch to set it flush. I use rivet gun tips that I had machined down a bit to avoid the mandrel breaking not flush. I’ve got several hand rivet guns with the tips on them and some rivets (not a lot) if anyone needs to borrow one or anything.

A chinook is a pretty good sea kayak, but fising out of it can be a bit of a pain. I’d put a pair of flush mount rocket launchers behind the seat, but forward of the rear bulkhead. Don’t do anything that messes with the integrity of the watertight compartment.
up front I’d use a Scotty. I had a flush mount rocket launcher up front in my Dagger Edisto and it made getting in and out a little tricky. I was able to put my PVC double rod holder in it, so it was worth the extra trouble.
I used that rig on a few SINKs and 2 or 3 SOTs with great success. Built from leftover pieces when I installed a sprinkler system at my house.

yep
It let me swing them thru about 60 degrees. made swinging the rods down to paddle under a dock super easy. The twist to lock kept more than one fish from taking a rod overboard.
