Mounting Trolling Motor

I have my son’s, new to him, boat at the house for about a week before he brings it back to Mt P. Sweet little 1969 Whaler with a 115 Yamaha on it, but it doesn’t have a trolling motor. I have a like new transom mount 55# TM, along with a 3’ tiller extension, laying around I want to mount on the bow for now. I’ve aleady spun the head around 180 and I have a guy going to extend the shaft since they are so short on a transom mount TM.

The only problem is I’m not sure what is the best way to to add something to clamp to on the bow. It’s a fairly flat surface to work with and I guess I could mount a block of wood…and maybe stain it to match the wood on the boat?..but was wondering if anyone may know of any other options of something I should use other than wood? …or maybe some sort of bracket??

I did the same thing yourre talking about on a 17 ft skiff.I used two piece stainless rail clamps at the top and a piece of aluminum angle at the bottom to secure it then cut the wood ( mahogany from a friend )to fit. It actually looks pretty decent and works well. You will probably have to drill recess holes in the wood ( paddle bit)where the two clamps attache to prevent them from riding up when you turn the motor.I tried it without the holes and if I hadnt been holding the handle it would have taken a swim…

post a picture of the bow section.

I got redneck ways of engineering this on the cheap.

Opti, shut your piehole.

Tim, I sent you a PM.
