I’d really love to get a couple of mounts for fish. Like a big ole redfish from the jetties, or my first poon, or my personal best trout or even a big Largemouth. Do I have to keep the fish to get a mount or can I just send in pics and get it done? I’m not really sure what they use for mounting fish? Also who does it locally, and ballpark estimate what should the price be?

i have never done this but if i did i would do a few things:
1 you can get replica mount and these day s they are pretty good.
2 get pics from a few angles
3 take measurements in this formula
The following is the formula for the use in estimating weight of fish by measurement. Take measurements as follows: Girth at the thickest point, length from the point of the lower jaw to crotch of the tail.
bflength.gif (27198 bytes)
Multiply the square of the girth in inches by the length in inches and divide by 800
For example: a fish measures 38 inches in girth and 59 inches in length, so 38 x 38 = 1,444 and 59 x 1,444 = 85,196, then 85,196 divided by 800 = 106.39 or 106-1/2
NOTE: For International Game Fish records measurements, the girth and entire length of the fish should be taken
4 if your fish has more spots one side not other be sure to photograph the side you want the replica mount to display
5 i would weigh the fish too.
6 have a good plan for all of this to get the fish back in h20 asap.
Like i said i have no experience w replica mounts so there may be more that you need to do. good luck!!

And get ready to spend some dough. To mount all those fish named it would cost more than a nice used flats boat. They get top dollar for a good mount.

my best man got into making fish replicas and would love to help you out! i had him make me a big largemouth and did a spectacular job with it and he is willing to do saltwater species as well. here is what he did with my 22" bass. the final price was about $300ish but price will depend on what all you want done (more cost for driftwood, baitfish, …)

Geronimo, I don’t want then all just one. Although that would make dome good conversation pieces! Too bad I can’t just leave them in an ant pile like we do for antlers! Thanks Ohio

yakman check your pms too
I have looked into it and the best places I found quality wise charge somewhere between $13 - $22 per inch… so a 30" redfish will run ya about $500 middle of the road… I have my records form Iraq but can;t find someone who says they can do it and not I “think” i can
it’s expenzive but if it is for a fish that means a lot to ya, save yer pennies and get a good one done

Haha yeah I really want one. Just have to be sure I have a fish worthy mount. Don’t wanna pay abunch of cash to get a redfish done, then next trip oone 5lbs bigger.
