What’s goin on guys. Man this weather has sucked so far this year. Always been pretty active on THT and NCAngler but moving to the Greenville/Anderson area this weekend. I’ve gone from Raleigh, 2 hours from Wilmington and MHC this time last year to Charlotte last summer now to the upstate being a pretty good haul away from all my fishing buddies. Have a love affair with the bluewater but always up for some inshore action as well. Hoping to have a small boat by the fall to striper fish on hartwell to tide me over between coastal trips!
Always looking for new people to fish with since all the crews I had been a part of are now 5-6 hours away. If anybody ever needs an extra on the weekends I’ll be keeping an eye on the “match forum”. Look forward to posting and reading on the site!
I fish to leave the rest of the world behind. I fish because I respect the fish. I fish because it’s in my DNA.
I graduated a few years back but went to Clemson. Never really had access to a boat so didn’t have at ton of luck fishing from shore but it’s still nice on the lake up there. There are certainly nice Stripers up there if you know how to catch them.
My advice would be to make sure you take a trip to Lake Keowee. It’s crystal clear and I’ve seen the schools of shad and 6+lb large mouth bass. It’s worth going if nothing else to get out of that oversized mudhole Hartwell.
The only good spot I found from land was the in the end of Lake Issaqueena farthest from the (**(). Fishing/swimming note there are leeches in this lake and Hartwell. In the far end during the summer when the fish are active there are some good sized largemouth under the lillypads. Just wear some shoes you don’t mind getting wet. There is a landing if you want to get a boat/yak in there. You can do no wrong with a weedless frog on top.
Sorry the link to lake Issaqueena wasn’t complete. Here ya go. It’s a short walk. You can usually see the lake through the trees at this end. Careful taking this dirt road around it. There are mountain bikers on the road and sometimes a little creek runs through the road that can be up to 1.5’ deep. Had to power through it in my old Portege once…
For the upstate, I’d recommend getting yourself about a 3 weight fly combo and some flies. Take a day to ride up to Burrell’s Ford and fish/hike your way upriver to the state line. Then take another trip and fish downriver towards Big Bend. When I was at Clemson the upper section of the Chattooga River was my getaway place when I needed to escape from everyday life. Warning you though, after a few trips trout fishing on the Chattooga you may not make too many trips of the longer trips to the coast. It’s heavenly up there.
Makes me want to go back and dig around through the pictures from up there.
