Moving battery. Cable question.

2008 Yamaha 90 2 stroke.

My battery is located at the stern of the boat. The battery cable is about 4 feet long. It is a Yamaha cable that has both the positive and negative in one cable. I believe it is a 6 gauge, could even be 8. I want to move the battery to under the console. This will add about 8 feet to the length. Is 12 feet too long for 6 gauge?

The battery cable goes into the engine compartment through a plastic piece that looks like it is designed for this particular battery cable. This piece also holds the shift and throttle linkage cables. If I need to move to a bigger gauge cable will I have an issue getting this cable to fit.

we normally use #4 and it will fit in the coupling you are talking about
whatever you do, make sure you use marine grade tinned copper wire

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

Thanks Chris. I may be stopping by next week to get the cable.
