First tournament of 2020 was a tough one …
Midlands Striper Club held its monthly Lake Murray tournament out of Acapulco, SC on January 18, 2020. With poor weather and tough fishing conditions, 37 teams participated in the event bringing 41 striped bass to the scales weighing a total of 235.94 pounds with a 5.75-pound average and 18 teams were able to bring a full two fish creel.
Finishing in first place with a total weight of 15.13 pounds was Team Tijuana UFBC captained by Chip Bragg from Prosperity, SC, along with Joey Burroughs also from Prosperity, SC.
Team Tijuana UFBC also won the Justin Christopher Big Fish Award sponsored by the Nichols Store with an 8.84-pound striper.
Finishing in second place with a total weight of 14.27 pounds was Team Garheart captained by Shawn Gearheart from Lexington, SC, along with Daniel Sullivan also from Lexington, SC.
Finishing in third place with a total weight of 13.35 pounds was Team Carolina Striper captained by Mike Harley from Leesville, SC, along with Cameron Ladd from Aiken, SC, Noah Blankenship from Lexington, SC, and Dylan Johnson from Aiken, SC.
Lady Angler Award went to Debbie Alewine from Team Jon Boy.
Youth Angler Award went to RJ Sineath from Team Stone Age.
Finishing in eleventh place with a total weight of 10.88 pounds was Team Been Lure’d In.
Finishing in eighteenth place with a total weight of 8.76 pounds was Team Catch 22.
Smallest creel went to Team Reel Deal with a total weight of 3.77 pounds.
