Midlands Striper Club continues to have great participation and great weigh-ins for 2012. Congratulations to Team Catch 22 for catching the big fish and for returning him to the lake. Also congrats go to Shawn for his personal best fish. This is very exciting for the club and for the lake. Keep up the good work.

Had a great day fishing on Saturday…

Unfortunately, at 2:40 when we got all the rods in to head back to the landing for the weigh-in, I could not get my motor to crank.

I honestly thought we would be able to get it cranked and make it to the weigh in. I have had absolutely no problems for over two years and I use the boat all the time. After trying jumper cables, removing the fuel line and reattaching it and trying about everything else possible while on the water, it became apparent about 3:15, we were going to be trolling home. Finally made it back to the landing at about 4:15 and then had fun trying to trailer the boat with a trolling motor and waist deep in the water. To make things worse, I realized about two seconds too late that my cell phone was still in my pocket…

Congrats to all…

Why couldnt I have had this problem in February instead of March when I had the smallest weight out of everyone that weighed 4 fish???

If I didnt have bad luck, I wouldnt have any luck at all.

Sully,

I am sorry we could not help you. Shawn called me at 3:13 PM, to see if we could assist you, but we were running wide open back to the weigh-in and I did not hear the call come in. We saw you and waved at you as we went past, however, it appeared that you just waived back, not indicating you needed help.

We would have been glad to help you if we had known.

Rick Kellemeyer

Thanks Rick.

In all honesty, when it got to be after 3:00 and it became apparent that we werent going to make it, I really didnt want to bother anyone.

I knew we werent stranded and that we were going to make it back to the landing so I didnt want to bother anyone that needed to haul butt to make the weigh-in on time.

I did not realize that I could give my fish to someone else to weigh-in, and if I had known that, I probably would have flagged down someone.

Either way, we had fun competing (the important part)and me and my partner on Saturday know where we wouldve finished and that is good enough for us.

Sully, I’m glad you’re cool with everything and hope your motor will be back running soon. I certainly would have stopped had I known you were in trouble. I would have called Richly and he would have kept the scales open for us. We felt horrible as we listened to Woody’s voicemail at the weigh-in. I just couldn’t hear the phone over the engine.

Fog, I don't know that Richy could hold the scales open as you suggest, according to the rules. Sully, I hate it for you, man. I heard that you had a good box of fish. This is an example of a situation where a VHF radio may have been a more effecient means of seeking help. The club has a designated channel, 72, and I monitor it during tournaments. If more folks were aware of your problem it's possible someone may have brought your fish to weigh in or offered a tow.

Thanks guys…

Boat is already at the shop. Probably will be about 7-10 days before they can get to it. I honestly think it is fuel related (clogged filter, bad pump, etc.).

Good luck to everyone fishing the Sportsman’s Classic tourney this weekend.

I will give everyone a fishing report about the Congaree early next week as long as my jon boat doesnt crap out on me too Friday afternoon/Saturday morning.

Well the point is we would have come up with some sort of solution had I heard the phone. I had a portable vhf that crapped out on me. Due to the lack of info being shared that way, I haven’t bothered to replace it. Perhaps I need to do so. With more boats fishing tournaments, there is bound to be more folks in need of assistance.

By the way, congratulations to our podium finishers! 35-40 pounds for a 4-fish weigh-in is truly exceptional for our lake. Way to go Catch 22, Gar-Hart, and Laidback!
