Went out at daybreak. Had 4 cutoffs within 5 minutes on topwater flies.
Switched to rootbeer grubs and had 3 more cut in half. Dragged a mirrolure about 6 miles paddling creeks, ICW and the edge of the harbor. Had 4 knockdowns with only 1 hookup.
Brought 1 toothy blue to the boat
Lost 4 nice flies and 3 grub bodies
got 1 mirrolure covered in bite marks
I was wondering when them guys were gonna show up again. My last 2 trips only 1 minnow cut-in-half, and 1 grub.
Guess they will be around for a few weeks.
Was about to take the yak out today. Sounds like I made a good decision, ended up hitting the surf…6 black drums in the 4-6lb range in 2 1/2 hours and no blues, whiting,…etc. Good day!
I had the same problem thurs. @ Cape Romain.I went through 5 soft bodies. I have some pics i would like to post from that day, but i can not figure out how to maqke it work. I used my old facebook account to get a url, but that only provided a link. Do i have to have a photo account online or can a just pull them from my hard drive???
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. </font id=“size2”>
I think I’ll amke some fine wire bite proof leaders before my next trip. I hate losing good deer hair minnows cause they take so long to tie nicely.
It was funny yesterday that after the sun came up and the topwater bite ended the day became more about yakking and less about fishing. I explored some way way back creeks, went up the ICW to the Ben Sawyer bridge, came back and did some time in the harbor. It was just a fantastic day to paddle. Not a lot of boat traffic and light wind for the first time in what feels like forever.
I started losing a couple mud minnows to the blues at Bushy this weekend as well. I brought in the front half of one minnow and the gills were still flapping on it. Those are some tough fish.
