I’ve been on that flat in my 20’ center console that drafts less than a foot and I don’t see how they’d be able to get up to 40’ boats in there without dredging.
I see more harm than good coming from this project.
“…be a man and PM me.”
Here’s the full permit request:
The proposed dock is 793’ from shore. That’s a lot of wave fence…

thanks for that Denmark

with the proposed fixed concrete pier, won’t that allow for more fishing area and also additional structure? Yeah, boat traffic will increase but it looks like they’re proposing a very limited number of slips.

That is until they decide to build it into a full-fledged marina with restaurants and other tourist attractions…
Like I asked…where will it stop… we will be suffocating in our own growth…

Not opposed to the proposal because it would extend the shore fishing area but I have to ask…
Why would someone in a boat, dock and get out of their boat to hangout on a fishing pier?
What they SHOULD be proposing is another ramp so people can actually enjoy their public resources instead of getting in road rage fights over parking spots.
Good points and question. No one can launch there so why make boat slips? Will the slips be going to the highest bidder or will it be first come first served. Will you be able to leave the boat there for hours, days, weeks, or even months at a time?
What is the actual goal here is what I should have asked. Not, where will it stop.

ON THE PROPOSED PIER:
The plan includes three more shade structures, but does not add a shelter for a dock master… The fishing pier’s management office is over 1,200’ away at the shore. I doubt the general public has the sense or ability to contact a dock master via VHF to coordinate docking.
The wave fence is huge and a massive L shape. It’s around 300’ with the channel and 100’ towards the shore. Seems like it would collect a bunch of floating debris. It will definitely alter the fishing patterns off the tip of the pier.
There is so much water moving through that area on a tide cycle. It’s definitely not a location where you would want to have an equipment failure.
Each of the 5 “dock bays” measure 40’ x 37’ with a 4’ wide dock between them. Those are huge. Would make a great high-end inwater boat show. Imagine a fleet of Freemans like Mexican Gulf Fishing Co.
The goal INCREASE TAX $ It’s probably a coordinated effort to maximize the price of adjacent properties… especially the empty lot between Harborside & the pier.
ON RAMPS:
There’s supposed to be a public ramp under 526 on Daniel Island.
Regards
Looks like all the drawings are from January 2017 and the permit has April 2017 on it. Did people just not hear about this in the meantime? Between this and the Coleman construction stuff, it seems like a lot of this stuff got put in motion by the town some time ago.
As for the proposal itself, I agree that I am not sure what the purpose actually is given the location. Seems like the current town council and mayor are willing to listen to concerns like this at least.
Ya know, it must be nice living in Neverneverland. Remind me to come visit you, when I need a break from reality.
