Sorry if stupid question but what do you guys mean? A normal bobber or a popping cork(do you pop it or let it sit)? Or do you guy’s mean something different? So again I feel stupid asking this question but I wanted to know.

Yes a poppin’ cork, and from my experience the cork is just to cover more area with the current. You can pop it if you want, popping it creates a bait fish in distress characteristic (at least that’s what it is suppose to accomplish) Also provides clearance over oyster beds and such, as it is floating it won’t get hung up as easy, due to the flotation above the hook. When using a Carolina rig the sinker seems to get lodge on the oysters sometimes … Good luck … Cork through current over an oyster bed with a mud minnow, if the trout are there probably catch you one
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

Do you guys add a little weight like a split shot to get the bait down some under the cork or just let em swim freely? Interested in trying this also while drifting. Thanks in advance.

John_boy I like to put a split shot about an inch above the hook… This will keep the bait down and also won’t let your bait tangle the leader with the cork.

Thanks Koondog. That’s what I was wondering. Any preferred depths or just two or three foot down under the cork? Some places are pretty shallow around here and I know that would have to be adjusted to the area fished.

I always use about 3ft leader.

To the split shot, I have seen people go with or without split shot, personal choice

What would be the best sized hook for trout flounder and reds on a cork?

2/0 j hook or 1/0 kahle hook. No circles
I’m a high class redneck.
Fishing is a delusion entirely surrounded by liars in pfgs and buffs.
I use a slip bobber so I can adjust the depth. Creek mouths I keep the minnow just off the bottom and pick up Flounder this way. Reds, I’ll throw the whole thing right in the grass and let it hang out in there for a while. The struggling minnow vibrations call in any Red in the grass line. Throw one out the other side of the boat in the main channel with the minnow about two foot below the float for Trout.
