Mud Minnows vs Live Shrimp

Which of these two baits do you prefer - Mud Minnows or Live Shrimp? Over my fishing lifetime I have fished both of these baits countless times and caught numerous trophy fish on both baits. I haven’t yet figured out which one is more preferable to the fish. Which one do you prefer and why?

Shrimp all the way for me. Mud minnows are disgusting (beer and a dare involved). I don’t understand why the fish like them. Terrible.

I bring mud minnows and always hope to catch shrimp. Both work for me about the same.

Shrimp in shallow water and when fishing toward the top of the water and mud minnows in deeper water and when bottom fishing. Not saying this is the end all but it’s what seems to work for me.

I’ve had mud minnows work in any water and all depths but it seems that shrimp don’t have the same potential at deeper depths that the mud minnows do.

In the end any bait is better than no bait.

I like to have both. Some days one catches more than another, some days opposite. If I had to pick only one, it would be shrimp. But MMs are tough and easier to keep alive, don’t get tore up by pinfish as bad, and if the fish are biting they work just fine.

The last time I went to the bait shop I bought 10 dozen live shrimp and 8 dozen mud minnows. The lady looked at me like I was crazy. We used every one of them, they both worked. Could have used 2 dozen more minnows. Ran out of bait and left the fish biting

If only one, I would pick live shrimp, but tough decision.

I’ve always used shrimp or finger mullet.
