Mud Minnows

Hey guys, hope everyone is catching em up. I fished on of my ponds on JI today ( only 2 rats)… Either way I have 2 dozen left and am getting on the boat in the am and wanna keep them alive. I’ve tried many different ways to keep them alive throughout the years, the low is 51 tonight… should I keep them outside or put them in shed… I think they’re cold blooded… Any advice helps. At least it’s not summer when they just cook:smiley:

I would put them in the shed, if it was just to keep the stray cats away from the bucket.

51 won’t be a problem for them… in fact it will probably increase their survivability since they will have a lower metabolism… need less oxygen. Put a bait bubbler in it for good measure. I also recommend fishermen keep a bottle of Seachem Prime (an aquarium water additive) on their boat to toss into the bait bucket. It neutralizes ammonia that builds up in the bucket or non-recirc baitwell, and it’s extremely concentrated (a quarter capful should work in nearly any bait container).

Saying “I am offended” is telling everyone else that you cannot control your own emotions, and thus you need everyone else to do it for you.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice… I normally just dump them. I’m heading from JI to Folly tomorrow and don’t wan’t to run back to Hadrell’s @ 7 am… Redfish Matt…I’ll grab some of that Prime for sure. Oh and there are stray cat’s on my street… I’ll post pic’s tomorrow. Thanks again.

i never dump them, just fill the bait well and leave them. every now and then a few die. If you have a bunch they will live about a week ,just a few will live two or more. i think my bait well is 20 gallons.
